The (p, n) reaction at intermediate energies is a sensitive tool for the study of isospin-spin correlations in nuclei. For heavy nuclei the neutron-spectra are at forward angle dominated by transitions corresponding to excitation of collective states carrying a significant part of total sum rule strength. Ion sources are a critical component of all particle accelerators. They create the initial beam that is accelerated by the rest of the machine. Antiproton-proton backward elastic scattering between 1.50 and 2.04 GeV/c

The paper reports preliminary results on the study of 200000 pictures from the 2 m-CERN bubble chamber, especially scanned for elastic events. The differential cross-sections are plotted as a function of cos theta /sub c.m./ for eight momenta, 1.50, 1.56, 1.68, 1.75, 1.80, 1.86, 1.93 and 2.04 GeV/c. Fits have been made firstly with a sum of Legendre polynomials up to degree 11, and secondly with the Frahn- Venter (1964) diffraction model. (9 refs).

Quality assurance for CMS Tracker LV and HV Power Supplies

This work describes the quality assurance measurements that have been carried out on about 2000 Power Supply Units produced in CAEN technology for the CMS Silicon Tracker Detector. The automate procedure and the characteristics of the dedicated Test Fixture developed for this activity are described in details. Magnetic field tolerance and radiation hardness of Tracker power supply units is also discussed at length.
