The number concentration of cloud particles is a key quantity for understanding aerosol-cloud interactions and describing clouds in climate and numerical weather prediction models. In contrast with recent advances for liquid clouds, few observational constraints exist on the ice crystal number concentration (Ni). This dataset provides a new satellite product of Ni obtained from combined lidar-radar measurements from the A-Train.

IAGOS vertical profiles

This dataset provides all vertical profiles over the airports visited by the IAGOS fleet. The profiles match the take-off and landing phases of the flights. The dataset includes values of all species measured by IAGOS instrumentation with a time acquisition resolution of 4 seconds as well as meteorological fields provided by the aircraft or the ECMWF.

It relies on rain detection from LEO microwave imagers (TRMM/TMI, F15/SSMI, F16/SSMIS, F17/SSMIS, F18/SSMIS, GCOMW1/AMSR2) and sounders (Megha-Tropiques/SAPHIR) as well as instantaneous precipitation retrievals from LEO microwave imagers using the BRAIN algorithm (Viltard et al, 2006).
