Grünland stellt unterschiedliche Ökosystemfunktionen bereit, etwa Nah-rungsmittelproduktion, Kohlenstoff-, Stickstoff- sowie Wasserspeicherung, Erosionsschutz und Biodiversität. Das Projekt SUSALPS untersucht die wirt-schaftliche Bedeutung von Grünland und ihre Rolle bei der Bereitstellung dieser Ökosystemfunktionen in den süddeutschen Alpen und im Alpenvorland. Es werden die Effekte unterschiedlicher Klima- und Bewirtschaftungsbedingungen auf Grünlandböden analysiert, um regionsspezifische, nachhaltige und praxisorientierte Bewirtschaftungsempfehlungen zu entwickeln.
