On $SU(3)_{F}$ Breaking through Final State Interactions and CP Asymmetries in $D\to P P$ Decays

Franco Buccella, Ayan Paul & Pietro Santorelli
We analyse $D$ decays to two pseudoscalars $(\pi,K)$ assuming the dominant source of $\mathrm{SU}(3)_F$ breaking lies in final state interactions. We obtain an excellent agreement with experimental data and are able to predict CP violation in several channels based on current data on branching ratios and $\Delta \mathrm{A_{CP}}$. We also make predictions for $\delta_{K\pi}$ and the branching fraction for the decay $D_s^+\to K^+K_L$.

Wavefunctions on $S^2$ with flux and branes

Sosuke Imai & Yoshiyuki Tatsuta
We formulate a six dimensional $U(1)$ gauge theory compactified on a (two dimensional) sphere $S^2$ with flux and localized brane sources. Profiles of the lowest Kaluza-Klein (KK) wavefunctions and their masses are derived analytically. In contrast to ordinary sphere compactifications, the above setup can lead to the degeneracy of and the sharp localizations of the linearly independent lowest KK modes, depending on the number of branes and their tensions. Moreover, it can naturally accommodate CP...

Proposal of new BSM searches at the LHC and at Telescopes

Filippo Sala
The LHC has pushed the scale of the needed new physics (NP) beyond the ~ TeV range. How to experimentally test NP models at and beyond those scales?A first possibility is to look for low energy remnants of such theories, like pseudo-Goldstone bosons (aka ALPs). I will show how ALP masses between a few and 100 GeV are poorly constrained, derive new strong bounds on diphoton resonances in that range, and propose new promising searches...

Two-loop splitting in double parton distributions

Markus Diehl, Jonathan R. Gaunt, Peter Plößl & Andreas Schäfer
Double parton distributions (DPDs) receive a short-distance contribution from a single parton splitting to yield the two observed partons. We investigate this mechanism at next-to-leading order (NLO) in perturbation theory. Technically, we compute the two-loop matching of both the position and momentum space DPDs onto ordinary PDFs. This also yields the 1 -> 2 splitting functions appearing in the evolution of momentum-space DPDs at NLO. We give results for the unpolarised, colour-singlet DPDs in all...

New Physics in $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ confronts new data on Lepton Universality

Marco Ciuchini, António M. Coutinho, Marco Fedele, Enrico Franco, Ayan Paul, Luca Silvestrini & Mauro Valli
In light of the very recent updates on the $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ measurements from the LHCb and Belle collaborations, we systematically explore here imprints of New Physics in $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^- $ transitions using the language of effective field theories. We focus on effects that violate Lepton Flavour Universality both in the Weak Effective Theory and in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. In the Weak Effective Theory we find a preference for...

Simulations of core formation for frequent dark matter self-interactions

Janis Kummer, Marcus Brüggen, Klaus Dolag, Felix Kahlhoefer & Kai Schmidt-Hoberg
We present the first $N$-body simulations that use smoothed particle hydrodynamics to capture the effect of dark matter self-interactions which are too frequent to be resolved explicitly. The relevant energy transfer equations are derived, the appropriate thermal conductivity is determined and the effects of different smoothing kernels are studied. We apply our framework to simulate the formation of isothermal cores in isolated dark matter haloes and determine the core growth rate as a function of...

Dark Matter Production during the Thermalization Era

Keisuke Harigaya, Kyohei Mukaida & Masaki Yamada
We revisit the non-thermal dark matter (DM) production during the thermalization and reheating era after inflation. The decay of inflaton produces high-energy particles that are thermalized to complete the reheating of the Universe. Before the thermalization is completed, DM can be produced from a collision between the high-energy particles and/or the ambient plasma. We calculate the DM abundance produced from these processes for the case where the cross section of the DM production is proportional...

Several Problems in Particle Physics and Cosmology Solved in One SMASH

Guillermo Ballesteros, Javier Redondo, Andreas Ringwald & Carlos Tamarit
The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics is a big success. However, it lacks explanations for cosmic inflation, the matter-anti-matter asymmetry of the Universe, dark matter, neutrino oscillations, and the feebleness of CP violation in the strong interactions. The latter may be explained by a complex scalar field charged under a spontaneously broken global U(1) Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry. Moreover, the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson of this breaking -the axion- may play the role of the dark matter....

Gaugino condensation and small uplifts in KKLT

Federico Carta, Jakob Moritz & Alexander Westphal
In the first part of this note we argue that ten dimensional consistency requirements in the form of a certain tadpole cancellation condition can be satisfied by KKLT type vacua of type IIB string theory. We explain that a new term of non-local nature is generated dynamically once supersymmetry is broken and ensures cancellation of the tadpole. It can be interpreted as the stress caused by the restoring force that the stabilization mechanism exerts on...

Parton showers with more exact color evolution

Zoltan Nagy & Davison E. Soper
Parton shower event generators typically approximate evolution of QCD color so that only contributions that are leading in the limit of an infinite number of colors are retained. Our parton shower generator, Deductor, has used an 'LC+' approximation that is better, but still quite limited. In this paper, we introduce a new scheme for color in which the approximations can be systematically improved. That is, one can choose the theoretical accuracy level, but the accuracy...
