The first edition of the SEVIRI cloud property dataset has recently been generated and released by the EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring (CM SAF). The CLAAS-2 record provides cloud properties derived from the SEVIRI sensor onboard METEOSAT second generation (MSG) satellites. This second edition is the improved and extended follow-up of the first version of the record (Stengel et al., 2014; CLAAS-1 DOI:10.5676/EUM_SAF_CM/CLAAS/V001). Dieser Datenbestand dient der Analyse atmosphärischer Zirkulationsbedingungen (Wetterlagen, NAO) im nordatlantisch-mitteleuropäischen Sektor wie sie von Reanalyse- und globalen Klimamodellen (Status: 2010) simuliert werden. Ausgewählt wurden solche Klimamodelläufe, die für Mitteleuropa oder Deutschland regionalisiert wurden. Mit dem Datenbestand kann einerseits die Eignung der verschiedenen Modelle zur Reproduktion der beobachteten Zirkulationsverhälnisse (1950-2000) geprüft werden. This dataset contains global precipitation observations combined from satellite and rain gauge data over ocean and over land, respectively. It spans the years 1988-2008 and has a spatial resolution of 1.0°×1.0°. Satellite observations are based on SSMI/I data of the HOAPS-3.2 dataset of CM SAF.
