HOAPS/GPCC global daily precipitation data record with uncertainty estimates using satellite and gauge based observations (at 1.0° and 2.5°, at 0.5° only Europe)

Marc Schröder, Andreas Becker, Felix Diezsch, Karsten Fennig, Kathrin Graw, Marloes Gutenstein, Rainer Hollman & Anja Niedorf
This dataset contains global precipitation observations combined from satellite and rain gauge data over ocean and over land, respectively. It spans the years 1988-2015 and has a spatial resolution of 2.5°×2.5°, 1.0°×1.0°, and 0.5°×0.5° (Europe). Satellite observations are based on SSM/I Level 2 and SSMIS data of the HOAPS 4.0 dataset of CM SAF (DOI: 10.5676/EUM_SAF_CM/HOAPS/V002 ). These data have been extended with observations from the AMSR-E and TMI microwave imager platform. The basic rain...

Precipitation Erosivity (R factor) based on RADKLIM Version 2017.002

Franziska K. Fischer, Tanja Winterrath, Thomas Junghänel, Ewelina Walawender & Karl Auerswald
Precipitation erosivity (R factor) is calculated based on RADKLIM-RW data of version 2017.002 (doi: 10.5676/DWD/RADKLIM_RW_V2017.002). The precipitation sums (RW) result from the radar-based precipitation estimation that are adjusted with precipitation measurements by gauges. The data underwent a post-processing including several steps of temporal and spatial smoothing. The data gives the mean value of the time span of 2001 until 2017 and is available in DHDN/Gauß-Krüger Zone 4 (EPSG 31468) on a 1 km x 1...

RS-11G GRUAN Data Product Version 1 (RS-11G-GDP.1)

Nobuhiko Kizu, Takuji Sugidachi, Eriko Kobayashi, Shunsuke Hoshino, Kensaku Shimizu, Ryota Maeda & Masatomo Fujiwara
This dataset comprises reference radiosoundings performed with the Meisei RS-11G. Reference in this case means that: all known biases are corrected for, best possible vertically resolved uncertainty estimates, well-documented correction algorithms, extensive meta data collection. The GCOS (Global Climate Observing System) Reference Upper-Air Network (GRUAN) data processing for the Meisei RS-11G radiosonde was developed to meet the criteria for reference measurements. These criteria stipulate the collection of metadata, the use of well-documented correction algorithms, and...

Surface Radiation Data Set - Heliosat (SARAH) - Edition 2.1

Uwe Pfeifroth, Steffen Kothe, Jörg Trentmann, Rainer Hollmann, Petra Fuchs, Johannes Kaiser & Martin Werscheck
The first update of the second edition of the Surface Solar Radiation Data Set - Heliosat (SARAH-2) is a satellite-based climate data record of the solar surface irradiance, the surface direct irradiance (direct horizontal and direct normalized), the sunshine duration, spectral information, and the effective cloud albedo derived from satellite-observations of the visible channels of the MVIRI and the SEVIRI instruments onboard the geostationary Meteosat satellites. The data are available from 1983 to 2017 and...

CM SAF Microwave Upper Tropospheric Humidity (UTH) Data Record - Edition 1

Christoforos Tsamalis, Rob King, Lizzie Good, Viju John, Rainer Hollmann, Nathalie Selbach, Johannes Kaiser & Martin Werscheck
This CM SAF climate data record provides daily estimates of Upper Tropospheric Humidity (UTH) derived from passive microwave sounders. UTH contributes significantly to the atmospheric greenhouse effect by having a strong influence on the outgoing longwave radiation, despite the smaller concentration by mass in comparison to lower troposphere. Long-term observations of UTH can therefore be used to monitor changes in upper tropospheric water vapour loading and subsequently to infer changes in the radiative effect of...
