Vera Schlindwein & Anne-Cathrin Wölfl
Latitude/Longitude extracted from DSHIP. Data acquisition was performed using a multibeam sonar system Simrad EM-122 from Kongsberg. Raw data are delivered within Simrad current multibeam vendor format. SIMRAD raw data can be processed i.e. with the software packages CARIS HIPS/SIPS, Caraibes, QPS Qimera or with the open source software package MB-System (http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/pi/MB-System/).

Experiment on E. huxleyi strains in the Azores, Bergen and Canary Islands populations to CO2 ranges from 115 μatm to 3070 μatm, supplement to: Zhang, Yong; Bach, Lennart Thomas; Lohbeck, Kai T; Schulz, Kai Georg; Listmann, Luisa; Klapper, Regina; Riebesell, Ulf (2018): Population-specific responses in physiological rates of Emiliania huxleyi to a broad CO2 range. Biogeosciences, 15(12), 3691-3701

Yong Zhang, Lennart Thomas Bach, Kai T Lohbeck, Kai Georg Schulz, Luisa Listmann, Regina Klapper & Ulf Riebesell
Although coccolithophore physiological responses to CO2-induced changes in seawater carbonate chemistry have been widely studied in the past, there is limited knowledge on the variability of physiological responses between populations from different areas. In the present study, we investigated the specific responses of growth, particulate organic (POC) and inorganic carbon (PIC) production rates of three populations of the coccolithophore Emiliania huxleyi from three regions in the North Atlantic Ocean (Azores: six strains, Canary Islands: five...

Data from a long term experimental approach on eco-evolutionary coupling in an experimental phytoplankton community exposed to ambient and high CO2

Luisa Listmann, Giannina S I Hattich, Till Bayer, Birte Matthiessen & Thorsten B H Reusch
Ecological and evolutionary processes both determine how species and communities will react to climate change, but how they interact is poorly understood. We studied adaptation in two bloom forming and globally co-occurring phytoplankton species, Emiliania huxleyi and Chaetoceros affinis, in response to long-term exposure to increased CO2 while competing with one another. Here we show that over approximately 200 generations, the interactions of C. affinis and E. huxleyi changed strongly, converting the initial winner C....

Better assessing the dynamic of stratosphere‐troposphere exchange is a key point to improve our understanding of the climate dynamic in the East Antarctica Plateau, a region where stratospheric inputs are expected to be important. Although tritium (³H or T), a nuclide naturally produced mainly in the stratosphere and rapidly entering the water cycle as HTO, seems a first‐rate tracer to study these processes, tritium data are very sparse in this region. We present the first...

Abundances of macrobenthos during three expeditions to the Central Arctic Ocean

Andrey Vedenin, Manuela Gusky, Andrey V Gebruk, Antonina Kremenetskaia, Elena Rybakova & Antje Boetius
During cruise ARK-IX/4 sampling gears included the multibox-corer (MG) and the 0.25 m² giant box-corer (GKG). From one to fourteen subsamples of the size 0.023 m² (Sampling area) were taken from each MG and/or from one to four subsamples of the size 0.022 m² from each GKG using the rectangular frame. The uppermost 1 cm of sediment from each subsample was washed through the 0.2 mm sieve; the deeper 5 cm were washed through the 0.5...

Description of benthic conditions and ice coverage at the investigated sites from three expeditions in the central Arctic

Andrey Vedenin, Manuela Gusky, Andrey V Gebruk, Antonina Kremenetskaia, Elena Rybakova & Antje Boetius
In the Arctic, under-ice primary production is limited to summer months and is not only restricted by ice thickness and snow cover but also by the stratification of the water column, which constrains nutrient supply for algal growth. RV Polarstern visited the ice-covered Eastern Central basins between 82 to 89°N and 30 to 130°E in summer 2012 when Arctic sea ice declined to a record minimum. During this cruise, we observed a widespread deposition of...

Predator activity associated with linear infrastructure, link to files, supplement to: Raiter, Keren G; Hobbs, Richard J; Possingham, Hugh P; Valentine, Leonie E; Prober, Suzanne M (2018): Vehicle tracks are predator highways in intact landscapes. Biological Conservation, 228, 281-290

Keren G Raiter, Richard J Hobbs, Hugh P Possingham, Leonie E Valentine & Suzanne M Prober
Roads and other forms of linear infrastructure are rapidly proliferating worldwide, yet little is known about how roads affect the distribution and abundance of predators, particularly in relatively intact landscapes. We used a combination of motion-sensor cameras and spoor surveys to compare dingo, fox and feral cat activity on unsealed vehicle tracks (hereafter: roads) and up to 3 kilometres away, in relatively intact landscapes of the Great Western Woodlands in south-western Australia. We compared predator...
