Interdisziplinäres Arbeiten an der Berufsmaturitätsschule Winterthur
Claudio Caduff
Python implementation of distortion correction methods for X-ray tomography
Nghia T. Vo
A python package, named Discorpy, is the implementation of distortion correction methods published in Optics Express [N. T. Vo et al., "Radial lens distortion correction with sub-pixel accuracy for X-ray micro-tomography," 23, 32859-32868 (2015)]. It is useful for calibrating an imaging system which is highly configurable and requires frequent disassembly for maintenance or replacement of parts. The techniques require a single image of a calibration target aligned perpendicular to the optic axis and thus imaged...

Discorpy is a Python package implementing distortion-correction methods published in Optics Express by N.T Vo et al. It is useful for calibrating an imaging system with sub-pixel accuracy. The techniques require a single image of a calibration target. Discorpy was developed for calibrating lens-coupled detectors of tomography systems but it also can be used for commercial cameras. Since version 1.4, correction of perspective distortion was added to the package.

Managing Research Contracts 2018 - An international benchmarking study
Rob Johnson, Dan King, Andrea Chiarelli & Lennart Velten
Research contract management is a critical function for all research-active universities. Funders, external partners and businesses are seeking greater value from their university relationships. At the same time internal pressures driven by growth and complexity impact on management, investment and skills. This report is intended to provide an evidence-based assessment of current practice, to assist those managing research contracts functions and inform policymakers. Breathing Games global report 2014 ⋅ 2022
Fabio Balli
Play is a natural way to experiment, socialize, learn. Our community invites people to collectively create libre and open-source games and game controllers to foster mutual and self- care in respiratory and mental health. We present the evolution of Breathing Games since its inception in 2014: the commons (principles, UN global goals, organization, contributors, collaboration, funding), events (2014 to now), outcomes (games, hardware, GHF Open Village, research, publications). This is also our communication on progress...

Investigating options for future Nordic WLCG Tier-1 operations
Josep Flix Molina
This report presents the results of a cost-efficiency study for the current configuration, and of other possible configurations, of the Nordic WLCG Tier-1 (NDGF-T1), as well as some guidelines to improve its computing operations. Evaluation of different options for deployment and operations, in particular if a centralized mode improves costs compared to the current distributed setup across four countries is presented. The report estimates the effects of the different modes of operations, listing the advantages...

The BioExcel consortium develops and maintains several software packages, including GROMACS, HADDOCK, PMX and interfaces for QM/MM using CPMD or CP2K. These codes address different problems, are written in different languages by different sub-teams, delivered to users in different ways, and all have unique challenges in identifying good processes and seeking ways to improve them. They are real-world examples of major complex scientific software packages that have adopted more or less advanced formal software development...

Ilze Koroļeva, Ilze Trapenciere, Aleksandrs Aleksandrovs & Rita Kaša
EUROSTUDENT pētījums sniedz ieskatu tādos aktuālos jautājumos kā augstākās izglītības pieejamība, studiju apstākļu raksturojums, studiju procesa vērtējums, starptautiskā mobilitāte studiju laikā, līdzdalība sabiedrības dzīvē, ienākumu un izdevumu struktūra, veselības stāvokļa vērtējums, integrācija darba tirgū. Piekļuve mikro-datiem LU FSI piedāvā vairākas iespējas dažādām interesentu grupām pašiem ieskatīties aptaujas datos un rast atbildes uz interesējošiem jautājumiem par studentu dzīves apstākļiem Latvijā. Fulfilling the need for a common reference collection of plant viruses and viroids (VirusCollect)
Annelien Roenhorst, René van der Vlugt, Thomas Leichtfried, Wulf Menzel & Christophe Lacomme
Plant diseases, including many plant viruses, are a continuous threat to the cost effective and safe production of food and cause significant losses in yield and quality of many important crops. It is therefore essential to minimise the impact of plant diseases through an effective and coordinated system of legislation, plant passports and testing laboratories. In such system, reliable and cost-effective diagnosis methods for plant viruses are essential. These only can be developed, validated and...
Exploring SpiNNaker
Justin Man
This report explores the capabilities and limitations of the SpiNNaker neuromorphic computing platform by extending the current sPyNNaker API to implement a compartmental neuron model capable of distinguishing between multiple excitatory inputs. The implemented model successfully achieves this and a novel approach to implement more complex learning rule is proposed that utilises a modulating signal to initiate learning. These novel contributions take initial exploratory steps to inform the development of next generation neuromorphic hardware and...
