L'esperimento in scienza politica: alcuni elementi di critica metodologica

Cristina Calò & Marina Rago
This article examines the use of experimental method in political science. In the first part we put in evidence the constitutive principles and the limits of the experimental method. Subsequently we highlight the practical research problems deriving from the transposition of the experimental approach in the domain of human sciences. We offer a brief review of the main fields of political science where the experiment has been adopted. In the second part we analyze three...

La guerra di Crimea come fattore di modernizzazione

Giulia Lami

The essay analyses the impact of Crimean war on the Russian and Ottoman empires. These were both pushed, in a different way but with a similar intent, to begin a complex policy of modernisation, giving its fruits in the 1860s and 1870s. Both Empires, located at the periphery of Europe, were governed by autocratic monarchs, lacked a tradition of civil rights and self-government and suffered from the comparison with the West, which represented in the...

Is 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose PET/CT acquisition from the upper thigh to the vertex of skull useful in oncological patients?

(:Unkn) Unknown
Aim: To assess whether performing routinely 2-deoxy-2- [18F]fluoro-D-glucose PET/CT (18FDG PET/CT) scan from the upper thigh to the vertex of skull is clinically relevant. Materials and Methods: 3502 (1634 female; mean-age 60+16) consecutive patients undergoing 18FDG PET/CT were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided in 10 groups according to primary malignancy. Chi-square analysis was used to assess differences among proportions. A p value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: 18FDG PET/CT was positive in head district...

Business-oriented model driven development of service oriented architectures

Luca Abeti
Context & motivation: The success in the adoption of innovative technologies and new software systems inside an organization is related not only to technical problems. Several authors pointed out the importance of business modelling in software development in order to understand for instance: how the organizational environment relates to its software infrastructure and how the development of a new software-intensive service for a company implies changes in the company business and in its processes. The...

Letteratura parascolastica e nazionalismo nella Prima Repubblica

Alvaro Santos Junior Simões
Abstract: Nei primi decenni repubblicani la letteratura parascolastica ha svolto, come raccomandava José Veríssimo, l’importante funzione di contribuire all’«integrazione dello spirito nazionale».

Synuclein expression in the lizard Anolis carolinensis

Mattia Toni, Federica De Angelis, Rosa Vaccaro, Arianna Casini & Carla Cioni
The synuclein (syn) family comprises three proteins: alpha-, beta- and gammasyn. In mammals alpha- and beta- syn are primarily expressed in the brain where they are localized in pre-synaptic terminals while gamma-syn is mainly expressed in the peripheral nervous system. In humans, syns are involved in neurodegenerative diseases with high social impact such as Parkinson’s disease and tumors. However, the normal cellular functions of the three syns have not yet been fully clarified. Members of...

Per l’edizione delle Lettere sopra la pittura grottesca di Pirro Ligorio

Damiano Acciarino

This contribution brings new information to light regarding the conceptual development of grotesque decoration in late Renaissance art. Three unpublished letters written by Pirro Ligorio are analysed. These scripts are a product of the cultural context of the Counter-Reformation, the artistic aspects of which were pioneered by Gabriele Paleotti, who requested Ligorio’s opinion on grotesque paintings before the publication of his Discorso. By comparing these letters with Paleotti’s book and other writings by Ulisse...

Cultural policy in Central Asia: comparative analysis of legislations and public policies

Svetlana Smirnova
This thesis provides an innovative and original contribution to the field of cultural policy research, critically assessing the public cultural policies enforced in three Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Moving from the conceptual framework of system and lifeworld, this dissertation studies how the Central Asian governments tend to colonize the cultural sphere intervening through legislative, financial and institutional measures. The first chapter looks at the concept of cultural policy and related to it...
