Utility ratings of ecological concepts by members of the Ecological Society of America

William A. Reiners, Jeffrey A. Lockwood, Derek S. Reiners, Steven D. Prager & Gregory S. Pappas
Data are from an on-line survey addressed to all members of the Ecological Society of America. Two types of data comprise this set. The bulk of the data is ratings of the utility of 131 ecological concepts by 1,324 respondents (131 columns x 1,324 rows). The specific question by which respondents rated concepts was: “Which concepts are useful to your research capability and intellectual interests in your daily work-life.”The remainder is free responses by many...

Abel Kho
This December 11, 2014 think tank discussed issues around the methodologies for optimizing the robustness and use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) data for a variety of clinical research purposes. Experts in both accessing EHR data and study design and analysis methodology using EHR data for research highlighted the challenges, solutions, and needs in this area. Given the potential broad scope of this topic, participants were asked to focus primarily on issues related to the...

Infiltration modeling breakthrough

Fred L. Ogden
We developed an efficient solution method to the one-dimensional partial differential equation (PDE) for unsaturated porous media flow attributed to Richards [1931]. Our solution is a set of three ODE's that was derived by starting from the same equations used to derive Richards' [1931] PDE. We used a change of dependent variable hodograph transformation, employed a finite water-content discretization and the Method of Lines to produce an ODE, which in its various forms accurately simulate...

Precipitationshed data for the moisture recycling analysis within the article ‘Megacity precipitationsheds reveal tele-connected water security challenges’

Pat Keys
These data are the output of a global moisture tracking model. There are output files for 29 megacities from the original analysis. Each file contains a globally gridded dataset of evaporation that eventually falls as precipitation in each of the megacity regions, i.e. precipitationshed data. The data is in a Matlab matrix, with dimensions of [years, months, latitude, longitude]. For additional details on how the data were produces, please query the original publication.
