In this paper, we investigate the impact of inter-modal four-wave mixing on mode- and wavelength-division-multiplexing systems. A set of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations, including linear mode coupling, is derived allowing to isolate the inter-modal four-wave mixing terms. The efficiency of inter-modal four-wave mixing between degenerate LP modes is found to be significantly higher than the intra-modal four-wave mixing efficiency. However, it is shown that the inter-modal four-wave mixing efficiency between degenerate modes is significantly reduced...

The effect of second order signal-noise interactions in nonlinearity compensated optical transmission systems
Mohammad Al-Khateeb & Mary McCarthy
We have simulated (using VPITransmissionMaker 9.3 and Matlab) 112Gbps PM-QPSK system operating at 1550nm carrying two Pseudo Random Bit Sequences (PRBS) on each polarization. The transmitted signals were Nyquist pulse shaped with a roll off factor of 0.01, and the total number of transmitted bits were 215 bits per polarization. The modulated optical signals have been simulated with 16 samples per symbol, and we have simulated two types of systems: (system A) propagates signals into...

The data sets collated in the first 12 worksheets comprise the BER measurements of the experiment reported in the associated papers, along with selected optical spectra. Each data point is reported as a mean and a peak to peak range, obtained from 5 individual oscilloscope captures using the signal processing software described in reference 41.
Each worksheet shows the same information for a different configuration of the number of superchannels (or conventional channels). Worksheet titles...

These datasets comprise listeners’ transcriptions of sentence-length speech stimuli for Experiments 1 and 2 of the article of the same title (Roberts, Summers, and Bailey, 2015). Each spreadsheet comprises a summary worksheet and the raw data for each listener. The summary worksheet contains aggregated scores (keywords correct by tight scoring, see below) for each listener in each condition, with relevant demographic information. Subsequent worksheets comprise the raw data for each listener and stimulus. The raw...
