2009 ArtStart

Alexander Hayes
In 2009 the researcher attended ‘ArtStart’ at the Australian Technology Park (ATP) in Redfern, NSW Sydney Australia, presenting a case for how web 2.0 technologies and the rhetoric of the open web had paved the way for human engagement with social media. The researcher recounted the many ways in which mobile technologies had influenced human behaviour and provided examples of how wearable computing would likely revolutionise certain occupations such as police.

2009 Elearning09 Presentation

Alexander Hayes & Geoff Lubich
On December 7 - 8, 2009 the researcher attended as an industry representative of EDUPOV Pty Ltd the eLearning09 conference (Ridgway December 7-8, 2009) held by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (AFLF) in Sydney, Australia. The researcher conducted workshops demonstrating the VIO POV (Mil-Spec Monkey 2008) helmet camera to representatives of the Manufacturing, Engineering, Construction and Transport (MECaT) teams from around Australia and showcased the Streamfolio application as a repository for data produced from POV...

DBS - Holmes Tremor.mp4

Vicente Martinez, Shu-Ching Hu, Thomas Foutz & Andrew Ko
This video demonstrates the effects of deep brain stimulation of the premedical radiations in a patient with Holmes tremor. The initial demonstration shows the "DBS-off" state where the patient displays prominent low-frequency tremor in the right upper extremity. The subsequent demonstrations displays the effects of turning "DBS-on", these effects are characterized by marked and robust improvements in tremor control.

Reactive oxygen species damage drives cardiac and mitochondrial dysfunction following acute nano-titanium dioxide inhalation exposure

Cody E. Nichols, Danielle L. Shepherd, Quincy A. Hathaway, Andrya J. Durr, Dharendra Thapa, Alaeddin Abukabda, Jinghai Yi, Timothy R. Nurkiewicz & John M. Hollander
Nanotechnology offers innovation in products from cosmetics to drug delivery, leading to increased engineered nanomaterial (ENM) exposure. Unfortunately, health impacts of ENM are not fully realized. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is among the most widely produced ENM due to its use in numerous applications. Extrapulmonary effects following pulmonary exposure have been identified and may involve reactive oxygen species (ROS). The goal of this study was to determine the extent of ROS involvement on cardiac function and...
