Data from Under pressure comparing in situ and boat tagging methods using time-to-event analyses

Jessica Keller, Danielle Morley, Jennifer Herbig, Paul Barbera, Michael W. Feeley & Alejandro Acosta
With the increase in telemetry studies over the past decade, improving understanding of how different tagging methods influence the probability of presence in a receiver array is important in maximizing the resulting data. Disappearance from the array may be due to mortality from surgery complications, tag loss, predation, or emigration. Internally tagging fish on a boat can cause barotrauma injuries, increased stress from prolonged handling times, or predation after fish have been released back into...

Data from use of biodegradable coir for subtidal oyster habitat restoration - testing two reef designs in Northwest Florida

Becca Hatchell, Katie Konchar, Maria Merrill & Colin Shea
The data consists of different oyster reef metrics used to test oyster reef performance across the project term (up to 5 years: 2016-2020). These data include monitoring for reef areal dimensions, reef height, mollusc percent coverage, mollusc density, and mollusc size-frequency measurements on 14 subtidal oyster reefs. Values are represented as square footage for areal dimensions, centimeters for reef height, mean percentage of molluscs for percent coverage, mean number of live molluscs for density, and...

Status of the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) breeding population in Florida, 2009-2014

FWC Old Tampa Bay Monitoring Program, Pyrodinium bahamense and chlorophyll a concentrations at routine monitoring stations in Tampa Bay for the years 2011-2020

Cary Lopez, Sara Kaminski, Eric Muhlbach & Laura Markley
Surface samples of Pyrodinium bahamense and chlorophyll a concentrations were collected approximately monthly in winter months (November-February) and approximately twice monthly in remaining months (March-October). Pyrodinium bahamense abundance data are presented in cells L-1. Temperature is in degrees Celsius. Salinity is in PSU (practical salinity unit). Extracted chlorophyll a concentrations are in µg L-1.

FWRI Technical Reports 1995—current

This series of FWRI Technical Reports contains information relevant to immediate needs in resource management. The Institute conducts applied research pertinent to managing fishery resources and species of special concern in Florida.

Evaluating long-term coral outplants on a large-scale via novel techniques

Stephanie Schopmeyer, René Baumstark & David Fries
To evaluate the success of A. cervicornis outplanting, an assessment of the entire, habitable reef area using photomosaics may be the most effective method. This project is evaluating long-term and large-scale monitoring methods for outplanted staghorn coral utilizing photo-capture techniques utilizing divers and Automated Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to compliment standard reef survey methodologies. Photomosaics can be assessed to determine the effectiveness and longterm survival of restoration activities. High-resolution images were captured using a REMUS 1000...

Florida Handbook of Habitat Suitability Indices

Eric J. Nagid
The overall objective for the Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) Analysis project was to review the HSIs being used by Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), and to make revisions based on best professional judgement or empirical data collection so that each HSI is representative of the physical characteristics of Florida streams. This report is organized by highlighting the project outcomes and management summary at the forefront, which is delivered through what I’ve title the Florida...

Bald Eagle Mortality Report: Necropsy findings for carcasses collected in Florida from November 2014 through March 2017

Data from: Billfish life history, age and growth research 1970-1978

John W. Jolley
Billfish life history field data include information on Atlantic billfish species, catch location, billfish length, weight, sex, macroscopic development, stomach content, gonads, and remarks. Additional data exist on plankton tows, ship logs, nightlight samples, and dip net samples. Some data sheets contain otolith information. Billfish samples were collected from fishing boats, smokehouses, and taxidermy shops in Southeast Florida.

Data from: Florida Handbook of Habitat Suitability Indices

Eric J. Nagid
The Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) Library lists the life-stage specific index values, changes made from the original set to the final set of values, and the freshwater habitat classification system used for the cover/substrate codes. The HSI Library is designed to be used in conjunction with the Florida Handbook of Habitat Suitability Indices. It is intended to be a living document in which updates can be made based on new information to promote consistency among...
