ERPs to transitions in facial expression: experiment 1

Michael Wright & Lisa Kuhn
These are 32 channel EEG raw data files (with blinks removed) recorded from 19 (anonymous) young adult participants. Full details of methods are given in a paper currently accepted for publication in PLoS One, which compares ERPs and recognition scores to dynamic changes in face images of 10 individuals (JAFFE dataset, link below). In Expt. 1, changes in emotional facial expression (angry/neutral or neutral/angry) are compared with changes in magnification (larger/smaller or smaller/larger). The .cnt...

Scalability and performance testing of an R-GMA based Grid job monitoring system for CMS data production

Henry Nebrensky & Paul Kyberd
Experiments such as CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid, at CERN) have enormous computing requirements for both simulation and subsequent analysis of the recorded data.Within CMS, BOSS [1,2] was developed as a job monitoring framework within the context of local batch farms. Deployment of BOSS on to the Grid would be problematic as it requires direct access to the DBMS from running jobs, raising concerns regarding network access, firewalls, and the distribution of DBMS access credentials to...

The RS4;11 cell line as a model for leukaemia with t(4;11)(q21;q23): revised characterisation of cytogenetics features

Denise Ragusa, Evgeny Makarov, Oliver Britten, Daniela Moralli, Catherine Green & Sabrina Tosi
Figure 1. Representative karyotype of RS4;11 obtained by M-FISH. In this metaphase the karyotype was determined to be 46,XX,t(4;11)(q21;q23),i(7)(q10),i(8)(q10). Arrows indicate the derivatives der(4) and der(11), i(7q) and i(8q).
Figure 2. Cytogenetic abnormalities investigated by FISH in the RS4;11 cell line. (A-B) Whole chromosome paints for chromosomes X and 18 did not reveal any numerical abnormalities. (C-D) An isochromosome 7q was detected using an arm-specific probe (long arm in red and short arm in...

On the grain refining efficacy of Ti-free hypoeutectic AlSi via AlTiB, AlB and AlNbB chemical inoculation- Dataset

& Leandro Bolzoni
In this study the grain refining efficacy of AlTiB, AlB and AlNbB master alloys on a Ti-free AlSi alloy is investigated. In particular, the performance of commercial Al5Ti1B and Al5B master alloys is compared to that of a lab-made Al2Nb2B and two Al2NbxB (x=1 and 2 wt.%) made in an industrial pilot scale facility. Although chemical inoculation does not change the morphology of the grains, which is always equiaxed dendritic, it is found that the...

Stability of the Electrical Supply to Rack Room 1 of the MICE Experiment at the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory in 2014

Henry Nebrensky
MICE, the international Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment, is a project to design, construct, operate and test a cell of a muon ionisation cooling channel that may be used for a future Muon Collider or Neutrino Factory.
The object of the MICE experiment is to take a beam of muons created from protons from the ISIS accelerator hitting a titanium target and to show that it is possible to create a narrow intense beam, using detector techniques...

Urban canyon wind speed calculator

Agnese Salvati, Massimo Palme, Giacomo Chiesa & Maria Kolokotroni
The spreadsheet allows calculating the wind speed in urban canyons starting from the hourly values of the undisturbed wind speed and direction and a parametric description of the canyon geometry (i.e. ratio of the height to the width of the canyon ).
The spreadsheet was used to carry out the research reported in the manuscript "Built form, urban climate and building energy modelling: case-studies in Rome and Antofagasta", which was accepted for publication by the Journal...
