Water uptake into seeds is a fundamental prerequisite of germination and commonly influenced by commercial seed enhancement technologies. The effect of fruit orientation and contrasting pelleting materials on germination and biological performance was assessed. We identify polymers which instruct different immunological responses by modulating macrophage attachment and polarisation to pro-inflammatory (M1-like) or anti-inflammatory (M2-like) phenotypes. These immune-instructive polymers were discovered using in-vitro high throughput polymer microarray screening of diverse (meth)acrylate and (meth)acrylamide libraries. The bio-instructive polymer function is validated in-vivo and analysis of the protein layer adsorbed to polymers, cytokine release and phagocytosis explored.
