Cirsium arvense frequency on Broadbalk Section 8 1991-2018

Sarah Perryman &
This dataset consists of the relative frequencies of Cirsium arvense (Creeping thistle) of the Family Asteraceae recorded on Section 8 plots of the Broadbalk Wheat Experiment, 1991-2018. Section 8 has not received any herbicides in its history. The collective weed fauna, and frequency of each species such as C. arvense, differ in response to fertiliser treatments which vary with each plot (see Related Documents below).

The arrangement of field experiments

Ronald Aylmer Fisher
Author's note. From about 1923 onwards the Statistical Department at Rothamsted had been much concerned with the precision of field experiments in agriculture, and with modifications in their design, having the dual aim of increasing the precision and of providing a valid estimate of error. These two desiderata had been somewhat confused in the minds of the experimenters, and the present paper was the author's first attempt at setting out the rational principles on which...

Experiments on continuous growth of arable crops at Rothamsted and Woburn-Experimental-Stations - effects of treatments on crop yields and soil analyses and recent modifications in purpose and design

Johnny Johnston & G. E. G. Mattingly
This paper describes six field experiments started during 1843-77. All, with various modifications, still continue and results for various periods between 1843 and 1975 are given. Originally the experiments investigated the nutrient requirements of wheat, barley and root crops, each crop grown in monoculture. Yields on unmanured and farmyard manure treated soils were measured and compared with those given by N P K Na Mg Si supplied in inorganic compounds and tested singly and in...
