Seasonal soil moisture measurements from a Mobile Instrumented System Platform (MISP) grid, Barrow, Alaska, 2016

Sergio Vargas
Seasonal soil moisture measurements were collected during the 2016 growing season at each Mobile Instrumented System Platform (MISP) grid meter in Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska. At each meter one soil moisture measurement was acquired, the date, start and end times, and the people present were also recorded. Soil moisture measurements were taken on the north side of the grid in order to reduce disturbance of vegetation. These measurements are part of the Arctic Observing Network...

PISCO: Intertidal: site temperature data: Cape Blanco, Oregon, USA (CBLX00)

Partnership For Interdisciplinary Studies Of Coastal Oceans (PISCO), Bruce Menge & Francis Chan
This metadata record describes a mix of intertidal seawater and air temperature data collected at Cape Blanco, Oregon, USA by PISCO. Measurements were collected using Onset Tidbit V2 Temp Data Logger (Onset Computer Corp. UTBI-001) beginning 2019-03-21. Site temperature loggers are bolted down in a wire cage at various locations within each site. Mussel growth temperature loggers are bolted down in a wire cage at high, mid, or low positions within a mussel bed. Temperature...

The Influence of dissolved organic matter on concentrations and distributions of trace elements in the Arctic Ocean, Arctic Geotraces, 2015

Rainer Amon
This data set describes the geographical and depth distribution of dissolved lignin phenols (terrigenous biomarker) and optical properties (Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) absorption coefficients and Florescent DOM parafac components) of DOM in the Arctic Ocean. Samples were collected during expeditions on the United States Cost Guard Cutter Healy (Canada Basin) and the Research icebreaker Polarstern (Eurasian Basin) between August 5 and October 10 2015.This sample set is part of the Arctic geotraces effort The...

Weather station data from McCall Glacier, Arctic Alaska, 2003-2014

Matt Nolan
These data are a compilation of all weather station data acquired on McCall Glacier, Alaska, from 2003-2015, including about 35 dataloggers from 25 locations on or near the glacier. The data from each station were compiled and reduced into a single spreadsheet, where missing time-steps or cells were filled with no data values as indicated in the spreadsheet header and associated metadata. Some out of range values were eliminated, as indicated in the metadata for...

PISCO: Intertidal: Coastal Biodiversity Surveys: Species Presence

Multi-Agency Rocky Intertidal Network (MARINe), Partnership For Interdisciplinary Studies Of Coastal Oceans (PISCO) & Pete Raimondi
This metadata record documents the species presence for PISCO/MARINe intertidal coastal biodiversity surveys. Intertidal surveys are comprised of four components, all sampled along the same transects: (1) point contact estimates of intertidal cover and substrate characteristics, (2) swath transects to estimate the density of seastars and abalone, (3) quadrat sampling to estimate the density of mobile invertebrates, and (4) topography (elevation relative to mean low low water (mllw)). Intertidal coastal biodiversity surveys are done throughout...

Mixed-species herding levels the landscape of fear

Keenan Stears, Melissa Schmitt, Christopher Wilmers & Adrian Shrader
Prey antipredator behaviours are influenced by perceived predation risk in a landscape and social information gleaned from herd mates regarding predation risk. It is well documented that high-quality social information about risk can come from heterospecific herd mates. Here, we integrate social information with the landscape of fear to quantify how these landscapes are modified by mixed-species herding. To do this, we investigated zebra vigilance in single- and mixed-species herds across different levels of predation...

Conductivity, temperature, and depth (CTD) data collected on the research vessel Sikuliaq, Northeast Chukchi and Western Beaufort Seas, 2016

Laurie Juranek, Miguel Goni & Burke Hales
The Conductivity, temperature, and depth ((CTD) )data archived here were collected during a 2016 research cruise on the Research Vessel (R/V) Sikuliaq (SKQ201612S). The cruise departed Nome September 3, 2016 and returned Sept 25, 2016. CTD stations were occupied throughout the NE Chukchi and Western Beaufort. We occupied some Distributed Biological Observatory (DBO) stations as part of this work, including DBO4, DBO5, and DBO6. Satellite measurements have documented significant reductions in sea ice cover, thickness,...
