This doctoral thesis describes the extension of the resonance ionization laser ion source RILIS at CERN/ISOLDE by the addition of an all-solid state tunable titanium: sapphire (Ti:Sa) laser system to complement the well-established system of dye lasers. A multi-stage test of a Blaze 532-40-HE diode pumped Nd:YVO4 laser, supplied as a loan by Lumera Laser GmbH, has been performed at the ISOLDE RILIS installation.
