nuSTORM at CERN: Feasibility Study

Kenneth Richard Long
The Neutrinos from Stored Muons, nuSTORM, facility has been designed to deliver a definitive neutrino-nucleus scattering programme using beams of $\bar{\nu}_e$ and $\bar{\nu}_\mu$ from the decay of muons confined within a storage ring. The facility is unique, it will be capable of storing $\mu^\pm$ beams with a central momentum of between 1 GeV/c and 6 GeV/c and a momentum spread of 16%. This specification will allow neutrino-scattering measurements to be made over the kinematic range...

ARCHIVER Status Update

Joao Fernandes
Recording of joint IT Technical Forum - Computing Seminar 19 Jun 2020

Abstract
ARCHIVER is a project coordinated by CERN using the EC PCP instrument to procure, assess and validate R&D from cloud based data archiving and preservation services.
The project activities combine multiple ICT technologies, including extreme data-scaling, network connectivity, service interoperability and business models, in a hybrid cloud environment to deliver end-to-end archival and preservation services that cover the full research lifecycle.

Optimisation of the ATLAS Deep Learning Flavour Tagging Algorithm - LHCP-Poster

Manuel Guth
The identification of heavy flavour jets (tagging) plays an important role in many
physics analyses at the ATLAS experiment. It is an essential tool for precision measurements as well as for searches for new physics phenomena. Significant progress has been made in the last few years to ensure the robust training of deep neural networks, requiring large training datasets.
The ATLAS deep learning tagger framework (DL1) uses deep neural networks based onTensorFlow and Keras...

soldering of multistrand wire connection under binoculary microscope

Ronaldus Suykerbuyk
For magnetic measurements special measurement coils are needed. This footage shows the steps to follow in order to solder connectors on a multi strand wire that is part of the measurment coil. Since the connectors are very tiny. The work is executed under a binoculary microscope.
The different steps:

00:00:00 cutting and separation ther wires and putting them in place on the connector.
00:01:40 tacking of the wires with very thin solder
00:02:14 final...
