A prima vista.
Pensiero tragico e pensiero ermeneutico
Claudio Ciancio
Many philosophies take their origin from the state of uncertainty, contradiction, anguish of human condition. However in modern thought, apart from few cases (such as in Pascal), philosophies have been a strategy to avoid facing the tragic. In the nineteenth century and in the twentieth century there has been a revival of tragic thought. The present paper, however, focuses on an indirect dimension of the tragic, investing the condition of philosophical thought, namely the tension...
Nichilismo e pensiero tragico
Sergio Givone
The paper focuses on Parmenide’s necessary “being” and on the fundamental ontology derived from it. The aim is to show that this ontology is not based on the oblivion of the being, but on the power of negation’s oblivion. This power of negation is essential to think the being; otherwise, being can be thought of only as necessity, as impossibility of not being.
Pólis “Politica e nichilismo” ‒ per lumi sparsi
Vincenzo Vitiello
Reconstruction by ‘scattered fragments’ of the history of Europe, from myth to contemporary political philosophy, following the concept of the Polis as the mediation place in the conflict between law and violence. Mediation impossible, because the very origin of the law is just the violence, that it should regulate. Of this impossibility the contemporary nihilism is the awareness; the modern Metropolis – of which Vitiello depicts the ‘peculiar’ logic – is the actual experience. The...
Mimesis, kenōsis e autoreferenzialità
Emanuele Antonelli
In this paper we offer an interpretation of the inner relationship between nihilism and the tragic. With reference to the work of Heinz von Foester and to the sciences of complexity, we will argue that the essential feature of the tragic is “autoreferentiality”. Furthermore, arguing in favor of the use of the theological notion of kenōsis as the most precise description of the “history of nihilism”, we will show that the latter is to be...
First-Line Treatment of Metastatic Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma: Can We Do Better?
Man Yee Merl, Osama Abdelghany, Jia Li & Muhammad Wasif Saif
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most devastating solid tumor malignancies. Majority of patients have metastatic disease upon diagnosis. Five-year survival is less than 5% for all stages of pancreatic cancer combined. Gemcitabine has been the standard palliative therapy for advanced pancreatic cancer over the past decade. Many studies attempted to develop combination regimens, but they failed to improve overall survival in the metastatic settings. The combination of gemcitabine and erlotinib was the first combination...
Pharmacogenetics and Other Molecular Targets in the Management of Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma
Eirini Merika, Konstantinos N Syrigos & Muhammad Wasif Saif
Among various abstracts presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) held in Chicago, June 2010, four interesting abstracts focusing on pancreatic cancer merit further discussion in this post-ASCO commentary as they potentially provide insight to clinicians and hope to patients. These abstracts point to the future of pancreatic cancer management through identification of molecular targets and prognostic factors to overcome the limits of efficacious chemotherapy delivery.

Pancreatic Cancer and Thrombosis
Manasi M Shah & Mumhammad Wasif Saif
Although pancreatic cancer is recognized as a major risk factor for venous thromboembolism, the exact magnitude of the problem is not known. The incidence varies from 17% to 57% depending on different studies. The effect of venous thromboembolism on outcomes in not well defined and there is no known independent predictor of survival. This review is an update from the current American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting regarding the impact of thrombotic events...
Clinical Outcome of Pancreatic Cancer Patients with Diabetes Mellitus: Is Diabetes a Poor Prognostic Factor?
Soonmo Peter Kang & Muhammad Wasif Saif
Diabetes mellitus and its related factors such as hyperinsulinemia have been linked to various cancer risks and outcomes. Previous research has offered inconsistent results in terms of relationship between diabetes and pancreatic cancers. Establishing clear association between these two entities may guide us in improving clinical outcomes of pancreatic cancer patients. Two abstracts that examined the association between diabetes mellitus and pancreatic cancer are updated in this paper. Herein, the authors report updated information from...

En Bloc Resection of the Pancreatic Head and Second Part of Duodenum for a Duodenal Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Multi-Media Report
Adam E Frampton, Jan J Bong, Charis Kyriakides, Patrizia Cohen & Long R Jiao
Duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumors are rare tumors. When these tumors arise from the second part of the duodenum they can easily be misdiagnosed as a pancreatic head cancer. A case of a 37-year-old female presenting with a one-year history of right upper quadrant pain is described here, who was subsequently found to have a mass in the head of the pancreas. Computed tomography scans showed a 2 cm hypervascular lesion lying between the head of...

Un teatro ideale per il reading filosofico. Il reading filosofico Forma e finalità
Rosario Diana
Paolo Prota & Valentina Nasti
Universali e ordine politico. Note su Spinoza
Roberto Evangelista
Educazione e conoscenza in Piaget e Vygotskij
Mena Iorio

Fatima Aden Abdi
Aphidius ervi (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) is an endophagous parasitoid of the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum (Homoptera, Aphididae) and of various cereal aphids.
Parasitized aphids show a notable inhibition of reproductive activity and metabolic alterations, which are nutritionally relevant for the developing wasp juveniles. Host regulation factors produced by A. ervi and responsible of these alterations are both of maternal origin, injected at the oviposition along with the egg, and of embryonic origin, in particular released by...
