Pilot Houtribdijk aims at gathering evidence for the effectiveness of a sandy foreshore in front of a dike in specific circumstances.A sandy foreshore to strengthen a dike is already a proven solution on seashores. However, in other locations – lakes, for example – more evidence is needed. This data collection contains the monitoring data that was collected during pilot project 2014-2018.

Jarkus Analysis Toolbox: parameter extraction from coastal profiles

Christa van IJzendoorn
The Jarkus Analysis Toolbox (JAT) is a Python-based open-source software, that can be used to analyze the Jarkus dataset. The Jarkus dataset is one of the most elaborate coastal datasets in the world and consists of coastal profiles of the entire Dutch coast, spaced about 250-500 m apart, which have been measured yearly since 1965. The main purpose of the JAT is to provide stakeholders (e.g. scientists, engineers and coastal managers) with the techniques that...

UWV (Employee Insurance Agency) is an autonomous administrative authority (ZBO) and is commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW) to implement employee insurances and provide labour market and data services in the Netherlands. The Dutch employee insurances are provided for via laws such as the WW (Unemployment Insurance Act), the WIA (Work and Income according to Labour Capacity Act, which contains the IVA (Full Invalidity Benefit Regulations), WGA (Return to Work (Partially...

BPI Challenge 2020

Boudewijn van Dongen
The dataset contains events pertaining to two years of travel expense claims. In 2017, events were collected for two departments, in 2018 for the entire university. The various permits and declaration documents (domestic and international declarations, pre-paid travel costs and requests for payment) all follow a similar process flow. After submission by the employee, the request is sent for approval to the travel administration. If approved, the request is then forwarded to the budget owner...

Kustgenese 2.0

Rijkswaterstaat & Deltares
The Kustgenese 2.0 program aims at generating knowledge to enable well founded decisions on the policy and management of the Dutch coastal system as of 2020. Field campaigns have been carried out at the Ameland Inlet and the deeper foreshore area of the Wadden islands Ameland and Terschelling as well as offshore of Noordwijk at the Holland coast. The dataset contains bathymetry, flow, waves, sediment, macro benthic species and meteorological data.

The role of prenucleation clusters in surface-induced calcium phosphate crystallization

A.(Archan) Dey, P.H.H.(Paul) Bomans, F.A.(Frank) Muller, J.(Julia) Will, P.M.(Peter) Frederik, de With (Gijsbertus) & N.A.J.M.(Nico) Sommerdijk
ACP formation is thought to proceed through prenucleation clusters. However, the role of such nanometre-sized clusters as building blocks2 for ACP has been debated for many years. Here we demonstrate that the surface-induced formation of apatite from simulated body fluid17, 18 starts with the aggregation of prenucleation clusters leading to the nucleation of ACP before the development of oriented apatite crystals. The data consists of separate sets for the five stages in this process. Datasets...

EVERLASTING: Electric Vehicle Enhanced Range, Lifetime And Safety Through INGenious battery management.

Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologisch Onderzoek (VITO), Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA), Siemens, Technische Universität München (TUM), TÜV SÜD Battery Testing, ALGOLiON, RWTH Aachen University, LION Smart, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Voltia & VDL Enabling Transport Solutions
The EVERLASTING project will develop innovative technologies to improve the reliability, lifetime and safety of Lithium-ion batteries by developing more accurate, and standardized, battery monitoring and management systems. This allows predicting the battery behavior in all circumstances and over its full lifetime and enables pro-active and effective management of the batteries, which leads to more reliability and safety which enables preventing issues rather than mitigating them. Moreover, by exploiting the interaction between the battery and...

SATA-LRS: A Modular and Novel Steerable Hand-Held Laparoscopic Instrument Platform for Low-Resource Settings

Tomas Lenssen
Background: Hospitals in low resource settings (LRS) can benefit from modern laparoscopic methodologies. However, cleaning, maintenance and costs requirements play a stronger role while training and technology are less available. Steerable laparoscopic instruments have additional requirements in these settings and need extra identified adaptations in their design.
Methods: Several modular detachability and tip steerability features were applied to the SATA-LRS instrument platform designed specifically for LRS. Ten subjects participated a dis- and re-assembly experiment to validate...

Simultaneous temperature and consolidation sensing near drinking water wells using fiber-optic sensors

Sandra Drusová, Herman L. Offerhaus, R. Martijn Wagterveld & Karel J. Keesman
A network of fiber optic sensors was installed 40 m deep in the ground, in the drinking water well field. The sensors are called fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors and they are sensitive to changes in strain and temperature at the same time. The linked manuscript explains how to calculate pressure from the strain response and isolate temperature response using autoregressive (ARX) models. The guide how the data is organized is in README.pdf

Zandmotor data / Sand Motor data

Rijkswaterstaat, Provincie Zuid-Holland & EcoShape
The Sand Motor on the Delfland Coast was created in 2011 as a peninsula covering 128 hectares. Natural processes, like wind and currents, are redistributing the sand gradually along the shoreface, beach and dunes. It is an innovative pilot project for coastline management intended to contribute to coastal protection in the long term. The intention was also to create an additional appealing area for nature and leisure activities on the Delfland Coast and to boost...
