Research Tools: Supporting Research and Publication

Nader Ale Ebrahim
“Research Tools” can be defined as vehicles that broadly facilitate research and related activities. Scientific tools enable researchers to collect, organize, analyze, visualize and publicized research outputs. Dr. Nader has collected over 700 tools that enable students to follow the correct path in research and to ultimately produce high-quality research outputs with more accuracy and efficiency. It is assembled as an interactive Web-based mind map, titled “Research Tools”, which is updated periodically. “Research Tools” consists...

Linking evapotranspiration, boundary-layer processes and atmospheric moisture using isotope tracer modeling and data

Chun-Ta Lai
This study uses high-quality spectroscopy measurements to place local constraints on the isotopic composition of near-surface water vapor in an isotope-incorporated land surface model. A full-year, near continuous observation of hourly oxygen-18 and deuterium isotope ratios in atmospheric water vapor at Wind River field station, WA, USA, reveals times of strong influence from surface ET versus times when convective mixing dominates. These surface isotope measurements provide a robust foundation to improve the representation of the...

Zinc deficiency induces apoptosis via mitochondrial p53- and caspase-dependent pathways in human neuronal precursor cells

Rohit Seth
Previous studies have shown that zinc deficiency leads to apoptosis of neuronal precursor cells in vivo and in vitro. In addition to the role of p53 as a nuclear transcription factor in zinc deficient cultured human neuronal precursors (NT-2), we have now identified the translocation of phosphorylated p53 to the mitochondria and p53-dependent increases in the pro-apoptotic mitochondrial protein BAX leading to a loss of mitochondrial membrane potential as demonstrated by a 25% decrease in...
