Studies on thermal comfort and curvature analysis, studying similar structures and functions in nature
Maria Vogiatzaki, Effie Douroudi, Maria Lantavou & Ioanna Symeonidou
The design methodology deploys digital technologies that enable designers to experiment further with complex forms through simulations, towards creating dynamic systems that adapt to different topologies, geometries, scales and environmental conditions. Furthermore, this prototypical textile is inspired both in form and function by scales in nature It consists of an adaptable skeleton, informed by the topology of the body, and aperture-components that open and close in order to achieve natural ventilation and therefore cooling towards...
Re[in]spired Textile - Project Presentation
Maria Vogiatzaki
Re[in]spired textile portrays their research on skin prosthetics, able to respire, providing thermal comfort conditions to users responding to stimuli received from the environment. In this way textiles transcend their known functions to embellish and protect, and create new forms of bodily habitation.
The parametric design process
Maria Vogiatzaki, Effie Douroudi, Maria Lantavou & Ioanna Symeonidou
Additive manufacturing is suggested as a potential fabrication method, as it can create complex objects directly from the 3D model by stratifying material layer upon layer, and prototypes can be highly customized. In particular dual-material 3d printing technology, that enables the fabrication of a flexible structure (e.g. Ninjaflex, Filaflex) with smart material (e.g. carbon fiber) embedded in selected components (Figure 3), in order to achieve the desired operation

The Lewis Dynamic Model
The Lewis Dynamic Model was adapted from Kolb’s Experiential Learning Model by Naowarat Lewis.
The essentials of dynamic learning within the model are those actions constituting repetition and reinforcement which are independent of tutor influence and wholly driven by each individual learner.

Type specimens are defined as typographic designs that showcase a typeface design, its context and its use. The Soane Sans Capitals were revived from observed drawings and photographs of the Lodges at Langley Park in Norfolk - from what is likely the earliest extant example of a Soane inscription. Their distinctive bold modelling and subtle curl to the ‘J’ which respects the classical...

Abstract.
The search for the origin of today’s commercial sans serif typography has become something of a “holy grail” for type historians. The earliest known example of a deliberately geometrical “serifless” letterform was confirmed back in the late 1990s, on a plan-drawing title block for a new parliamentary building. It was produced whilst on the grand tour by the architect John Soane....

San serif Bishop Marks from 1673
Practice-based historical research is utilized within the production of an alphabet of letterforms which explore the context for sans serif Bishop Marks from 1673. The limited published history and original primary examples were studied within the production of an experimental digital typeface of the date-stamp glyphs required within a functional computer font. The letterform modelling and characteristics represent a late...
