Resident macrophages restrain pathological adipose tissue remodeling and protect vascular integrity during obesityChen Qi, Lai Simin, Xu Shaohai, Tan Yingrou, , Liu Dehua, Tan Jiachi, , Barron Anna M, Sunil S. Adav, Chen Jinmiao, Chong Shuzhen, &
Tissue-resident macrophages in white adipose tissue (WAT) dynamically adapt to the metabolic changes of their microenvironment that are often induced by excess energy intake. Currently, the exact contribution of these macrophages in obesity-driven WAT remodeling remains controversial. Here, using a transgenic CD169-DTR mouse strain, we provide new insights into the interplay between CD169+ adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) and their surrounding WAT microenvironment. Using targeted in vivo ATM ablation followed by transcriptional and metabolic WAT profiling,...

Replication Data for: A systematic review of gut‐immune‐brain mechanisms in Autism Spectrum DisorderGianluca Esposito
Despite decades of research, the etiological origins of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) remain elusive. Recently, the mechanisms of ASD have encompassed emerging theories involving the gastrointestinal, immune, and nervous systems. While each of these perspectives presents its own set of supporting evidence, the field requires integration of these modular concepts and an overarching view of how these subsystems intersect. In this systematic review, we have synthesized relevant pieces of evidence from the existing literature, evaluating...
Disapproval from romantic partners, friends and parents: source of criticism regulates prefrontal cortex activityGianluca Esposito & Neoh Michelle
The prevalence of criticism in everyday social situations and empirically demonstrated association with psychopathology highlight the importance of understanding neural mechanisms underlying the perception and response of individuals towards criticism. However, neuroimaging studies have been limited largely to maternal criticism. The present study aims to investigate differences in neural responses to criticism originating from sources of three different relationship types: romantic partners, friends and parents. Perceived criticism (PC) ratings for these relationships by 50 participants...
Physiological signals have been widely used to measure continuous data from the autonomic nervous system in the fields of Computer Science, Psychology and Human-Computer Interaction. Signal processing and feature estimation of physiological measurements can be performed with several commercial tools. Unfortunately, those tools possess a steep learning curve and do not usually allow for complete customization of estimation parameters. For these reasons, we designed PySiology, an open source package for the estimation of features from...

Replication Data for: Targeted Synthesis of Trimeric Organic–Bromoplumbate Hybrids That Display Intrinsic, Highly Stokes-Shifted, Broadband EmissionBenny Febriansyah
Zero-dimensional (0D) hybrid organic–inorganic lead halides have been shown to display efficient broadband photoluminescence and are, therefore, of significant interest for artificial lighting applications. However, work that investigates the formability of the materials as a function of templating organic cation structure is rare. This severely limits our ability to rationally design new materials displaying specific structural and photophysical properties. With the goal of accessing rare 0D trimeric bromoplumbates, we have systematically varied templating N-alkylpyridinium cations...

The other-race face recognition deficit is a robust finding in the literature on facial processing in humans. Although previous models of the other-race effect have proposed the role of experience and interracial contact, genetics have not been examined in the context of other-race face recognition. The aim of this study was to investigate the gene-environment interaction between early caregiving experience and with other-race face recognition in adults. Eighty-nine Singaporean adults were recruited and information on...
The Talk Wheel was developed in 2019 as a gift for parents participating in studies at the BLIP Lab in Singapore. The tips on the Talk Wheel were integrated into the Talk Together Intervention in 2020. Physical Talk Wheels were custom printed on large fridge magnets, with a spinning arm. The first parents to receive the Talk Wheel were participants in the Talk Together Study in Singapore 2020.

Transcriptome profiling reveals functional variation in Plasmodium falciparum parasites from controlled human malaria infection studiesRegina May Ling Hoo
Background The transcriptome of Plasmodium falciparum clinical isolates varies according to strain, mosquito bites, disease severity and clinical history. Therefore, it remains a challenge to directly interpret the parasite's transcriptomic information into a more general biological signature in a natural human malaria infection. These confounding variations can be potentially overcome with parasites derived from controlled-human malaria infection (CHMI) studies. Methods We performed CHMI studies in healthy and immunologically naïve volunteers receiving the same P. falciparum...
This paper studies how peer performance affects firms’ earnings management decisions. Using peer firms’ idiosyncratic returns as an exogenous peer performance measure and the instrumental variable approach, we find that higher peer performance leads to higher discretionary accruals. This effect is salient for both industry leaders and followers and is robust to alternative discretionary accrual measures and alternative peer definitions. We examine two mechanisms through which peer performance affects firms’ earnings management. We find that...
