Data sharing for masters theses appendix data

As new practices become established procedures, we must amend policies and guidelines to expand to fit these new norms. Data sharing is now becoming an expectation in scientific research. This paper will survey the landscape of data sharing policy from funders, publishers, and universities and will take from those policies to suggest changes the UNC SILS master’s paper/project policy to include a data sharing component, namely, a data management plan and a data availability statement....

Meta-analysis of heterogeneity

Meta-analyses Applying a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) method for opioid measurement dilemmas, we used meta-analytic techniques to quantify how much heterogeneity would have been observed across hypothetical state-comparison studies, each applying one of the 4 variants on the same sample (fixed effects). In preliminary analyses, Florida generally had higher opioid use than California, presumably due to an older population, scope of practice legislation and other factors.

Periodontal Profile Class (PPC) Stage and Periodontal Pathogen Colonization Phenotype Data in the Dental ARIC GWAS study

, &
These data complement the analysis of PLG gene human variation in relation to periodontal disease and periodontal pathogen colonization reported in the manuscript of Silva et al. 2021 (under review and available as a pre-print at: https://doi.org/10.1101/2021.01.15.426743). Corresponding genotype data have been deposited on dbGaP with accession number: phs000090.v7.p1 and full documentation is available at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/gap/cgi-bin/study.cgi?study_id=phs000090.v7.p1

Face Covering Survey among North Carolina residents

State and local health departments have been tasked with promoting the use of face coverings to decrease the spread of COVID-19 in their respective communities. However, little is known about motivations and barriers to wearing face coverings in the context of COVID-19 prevention, particularly among communities of color who are at an increased risk of serious illness from the disease. The purpose of this study was to identify common motivations and barriers to face covering...

ZOE 2.0: A community-based, epidemiologic study of early childhood oral health

Early childhood caries (ECC) is an aggressive form of dental caries occurring in the first five years of life. Despite its prevalence and consequences, little progress has been made in its prevention and even less is known about individuals' susceptibility or genomic risk factors. The genome-wide association study (GWAS) of ECC ("ZOE 2.0") is a community-based, multi-ethnic, cross-sectional, genetic epidemiologic study seeking to address this knowledge gap. This paper describes the study's design, the cohort's...

Spatiotemporal Variability of Gas Transfer Velocity in a Tropical High-Elevation Stream Using Two Independent Methods

*** This work was funded by the National Science Foundation under award 1847331: Streams in high-elevation tropical ecosystems known as páramos may be significant sources of carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere by transforming terrestrial carbon to gaseous CO2. Studies of these environments are scarce and estimates of CO2 fluxed are poorly constrained. In this study, we use two independent methods for measuring gas transfer velocity (k), a critical variable in the estimation of CO2...

HealthyVOICES data for article about the sociodemographic characteristics and participation over time of healthy volunteers in Phase I clinical trials

This is the dataset that was used for a manuscript about the sociodemographic characteristics and participation over time of healthy volunteers in US phase I clinical trials. The abstract of that paper is as follows: Background. Increasing the diversity of research participants is an important focus of clinical trials. However, little is known regarding who enrolls as healthy volunteers in Phase I clinical trials, which test the safety and tolerability of investigational new drugs. Despite...
