Climate records from different places in black cherry - pine forests in the Havelland, north-eastern Germany

Jonas Geschke
The data has been gathered in order to investigate the influence of the invasive black cherry (Prunus serotina Ehrh.) on bats (Chiroptera: Verpertilionidae) in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) forest ecosystems. The bat calls were recorded using automated recording devices (batcorders) in pine forest stands with three different black cherry densities (pine monoculture, light and dense black cherry) for a period of 60 survey nights between the end of July and late September 2016. Three plots...

Spectral irradiance above and under sea ice from ROV measurements 2011-2017, supplement to: Katlein, Christian; Arndt, Stefanie; Belter, Hans Jakob; Castellani, Giulia; Nicolaus, Marcel (2019): Seasonal Evolution of Light Transmission Distributions Through Arctic Sea Ice. Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 124(8), 5418-5435

Christian Katlein, Stefanie Arndt, Hans Jakob Belter & Marcel Nicolaus
Measurements of solar radiation over and under sea ice have been performed on various stations in the Arctic Ocean during various Polarstern cruises between 2011 and 2017. All radiation measurements have been performed with Ramses spectral radiometers (Trios, Rastede, Germany). All data are given in full spectral resolution interpolated to 1.0 nm, and integrated over the entire wavelength range (broadband, total: 320 to 950 nm). One sensor was mounted on a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV)...

Physiochemical data of submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) samples in Awur Beach, Indonesia, supplement to: Adyasari, Dini; Hassenrück, Christiane; Oehler, Till; Sabdaningsih, Aninditia; Moosdorf, Nils (2019): Microbial community structure associated with submarine groundwater discharge in northern Java (Indonesia). Science of the Total Environment, 689, 590-601

Groundwater discharge is known to transport nutrients into estuaries at several locations around the world. However, few studies report groundwater-associated nutrient fluxes from tropical developing regions such as Southeast Asia, even though this area shows the strongest human modifications in the coastal zone worldwide. We investigated groundwater nutrient flux into two streams and estuaries (Awur and Sekumbu Bay) in the urban area of Jepara, Indonesia, and its relation with the land usage surrounding the estuaries.We...

Marine Isotope Stage 4 in Australasia: a full glacial culminating 65,000 years ago - global connections and implications for human dispersal, supplement to: De Deckker, Patrick; Arnold, Lee; van der Kaars, Sander; Bayon, Germain; Stuut, Jan-Berend W; Perner, Kerstin; Lopes dos Santos, Raquel A; Uemura, Ryu; Demuro, Martina (2018): Marine Isotope Stage 4 in Australasia: a full glacial culminating 65,000 years ago - global connections and implications for human dispersal. Over the last four decades of palaeoclimate research, significant emphasis has been placed on the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) spanning 26.5-19 thousand years ago (ka), a period that saw significant (~125 m) sea-level reductions and major ice caps adorning large parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Here, we present evidence for another major glacial period spanning 71-59 ka (Marine Isotope Stage 4: MIS4) from a well-dated marine sequence offshore South Australia. The astronomically-tuned chronology of this...

Biomarkers (TEX86), planktic isotopes and XRF records of IODP Site 356-U1459 (Perth Basin), supplement to: De Vleeschouwer, David; Petrick, Benjamin F; Martínez‐García, Alfredo (2019): Stepwise weakening of the Pliocene Leeuwin Current. Geophysical Research Letters, 46(14), 8310-8319

David De Vleeschouwer, Benjamin F Petrick & Alfredo Martínez‐García
The Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) operates as an important link in global thermohaline circulation and ITF variability probably modulated Pliocene climate change. Yet, whether ITF variability accounted for oceanographic change south of Northwest Cape remains controversial. Here, we present a multi-proxy oceanographic reconstruction from the Perth Basin and reconstruct the Pliocene history of the Leeuwin Current (LC). We affirm the LC to be active throughout the Pliocene, albeit with fluctuations in intensity and scope. Three main...

Shoreline survey data collected at Rialto Beache, Washington State, 2019-05-21

Ian Miller
Data were collected using GNSS survey methods, with a differential GPS operating in Real Time Kinematic (RTK) mode. All data were collected with an AshTech ProMark 200 RTK-DGPS system connected to the Washington State Reference Network. Horizontal positions are referenced to NAD83(2011) and the vertical data are referenced to NAVD88(Geoid09). All survey data were collected with the GNSS system mounted on a 2.05 m rover pole, held level as a transect line was traced in...

High Resolution Underway Nitrous Oxide Measurements (water) during METEOR cruise M99

Damian L Arévalo-Martínez & Hermann Werner Bange
The Benguela Upwelling System (BUS) is the most productive of all eastern boundary upwelling ecosystems and it hosts a well-developed oxygen minimum zone. As such, the BUS is a potential hotspot for production of N2O, a potent greenhouse gas derived from microbially driven decay of sinking organic matter. Yet, the extent at which near-surface waters emit N2O to the atmosphere in the BUS is highly uncertain. Here we present the first high-resolution surface measurements of...

Bacterial data from CTD stations during POLARSTERN cruise PS85 (ARK-XXVIII/2), supplement to: Fadeev, Eduard; Salter, Ian; Schourup-Kristensen, Vibe; Nöthig, Eva-Maria; Metfies, Katja; Engel, Anja; Piontek, Judith; Boetius, Antje; Bienhold, Christina (2018): Microbial Communities in the East and West Fram Strait During Sea Ice Melting Season. Frontiers in Marine Science, 5

Anja Engel & Judith Piontek
Here we present a comparative study of polar summer microbial communities in the ice-free (eastern) and ice-covered (western) hydrographic regimes at the LTER HAUSGARTEN in Fram Strait, the main gateway between the Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans. Based on measured and modeled biogeochemical parameters, we tentatively identified two different ecosystem states (i.e., different phytoplankton bloom stages) in the distinct regions. Using Illumina tag-sequencing, we determined the community composition of both free-living and particle-associated bacteria as...

Beach profile data for the Elwha River Delta, 2011-10-11

Data were collected using GNSS survey methods, with a differential GPS operating in Real Time Kinematic (RTK) mode. Data from prior to 2013 were typically collected with a Magellan ProMark 3 traditional RKT-DGPS system (i.e. local base station and rover), with the base station sited on survey control markers installed in 1996, with survey control coordinates referenced to NAD83(CORS91). Starting in 2013 survey data were typically collected with an AshTech ProMark 200 RTK-DGPS system connected...
