RADARSAT derived monthly ice motion estimates for the Beaufort Sea, 1997-2014

Chris Derksen, Stephen Howell & Mike Brady
Ice motion estimates were derived from RADARSAT-1 and RADARSAT-2 ScanSAR imagery using the Canadian Ice Service Automated Sea Ice Tracking System (CIS-ASITS). The system applies a combination of cross-correlation and phase-correlation methods of feature tracking to sequential SAR-image pairs. Ice drift vectors of varying confidence levels are produced from examining the image pairs at multiple resolution levels. Estimates were gridded at 200 m pixel resolution and organized by month. Using outputs produced by the CIS-ASITS...

Shrub expansion in Alpine Tundra of the Kluane Region

Isla H. Myers-Smith & David S. Hik
We have conducted experimental manipulations of shrub canopies in the south-western Yukon. For the 12 shrub and 12 tundra plots, we have measured soil temperatures, snow depths, soil profiles, carbon dioxide effluxes, plant available nitrate and ammonia, tundra and shrub biomass, and percent carbon and nitrogen in soils and plant biomass. We have also collected shrub growth ring data and ages for willows from 20 sites in the Kluane Region and other sites in the...

Chemical composition of tundra plant and lichens at Daring Lake, NWT in control and greenhouse plots

Paul Grogan, Tara Zamin, Steeve Côté & Jean-Pierre Tremblay
Samples of tundra plants and lichens were collected from control and experimental greenhouse plots at Daring Lake Tundra Ecosystem Research Station in the summer of 2011. This included two sets of samples: 1) Mid-August sampling, in which leaves were collected from the deciduous shrub, Betula glandulosa, graminoid, Eriophorum vaginatum, evergreen shrubs, Rhododendron subarcticum (formerly Ledum decumbens) and Vaccinium vitis-idaea. Samples of the lichens, Cetraria cucullata and Cladina rangiferina were also collected. 2) Sampling throughout the...
