Philippe De Wals, Brigitte Lefèbvre, Hannah Ayukawa, , Martine Six & Ruth Bruno
The evaluation will be carried out by comparing frequency rates for different indicators in three birth cohorts that did not receive 7-PCV or TIV (1994-1996), in six cohorts that received the vaccines but not every dose in the complete vaccination schedule (1997-2002), and in three cohorts that benefited from the routine vaccination program combining 7-PCV and TIV and received the complete schedule (2003-2005). The information sources used will include the provincial hospitalizations database ("fichier Med-Echo"),...

Terminal-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (T-RFLP) analysis of bacterial 16S rRNA genes. Soil samples taken from Long-term Ecological Research (LTER) greenhouse treated and control plots at Toolik Lake, AK; 5 sampling dates.

Suzanne Simard, Julie R. Deslippe, , , Martin Hartmann & William Mohn
In the summer of 2006 and 2007, we collected soils treated with warming by greenhouses since 1989, which are maintained as part of the Arctic Long-term Ecological Research (LTER) site at Toolik Lake, AK (68o38'N, 149o34'W, elevation 760m). Total nucleic acids were extracted from soil samples allowing for the simultaneous assessment of the total and actively growing components of the soil microbial community. We used Terminal Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (T-RFLP) analysis of 16S rRNA...

Phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) profiles and 13C-enrichment values for 23 PLFAs from rhizosphere, organic and mineral soils surrounding Betula nana, Ledum palustre, and Salix pulchra plants, 4 sampling dates.

Suzanne Simard, Julie R. Deslippe, Per Bengtson & Sue J. Grayston
We tested the influence of three different tundra plant species (Salix pulchra, Betula nana, and Ledum palustre) on the soil microbial community composition in bulk organic, mineral and rhizosphere soils. We used stable isotope techniques to study carbon transfer from plants labeled with 13CO2 in situ to the soil microbial community, and PLFA analysis to test the resulting effect on the microbial community composition.

White spruce tree-ring-width data in Old Crow Flats, Yukon Territory, 2007-2008

Lance Nagwan, Trevor J. Porter & Michael F.J. Pisaric
A network of 23 white spruce sites was established in Old Crow Flats, and tree-ring samples were collected from each site using standard dendrochronological techniques. Cores were collected from living trees and cookies were cut from dead trees. Ring-width series were measured from all samples at the Carleton University Paleoecology Laboratory, and mean site chronologies were calculated for each site. Climate-growth relations of each site were assessed. Regional growth patterns were compared against other white...

Ground penetrating radar data for ice patches in the Mackenzie Mountains, Northwest Territories, 2007-2008

Prince Of Wales Northern Heritage Centre Tom Andrews, Department Of Geography Brian Moorman & Department Of Geography Thomas Muelendyk
Ground penetrating radar data was collected along transects across the ice patches at 250 MHz and 500 MHz frequencies. Traces were collected roughly every 5 cm along the transects with the GPS location and elevation being recorded at each trace location. The data is in a Pulse EKKO format and indicates the thickness of the ice and internal layering. The transects were laid out in a grid manner such that the three dimensional geometry of...

Arctic-SOLAS 2007 atmospheric DMS, SO2, aerosol sulfate and MSA

, Ofelia Rempillo & Alison Michelle Seguin
The database consists of hourly atmospheric DMS concentrations, daily SO2 and total sulfate concentrations and three-day concentrations of size segregated aerosol sulfate. Samples were taken on the top of the navigation bridge of the CCGS Amundsen as it cruised along Baffin Bay and the Northwest Passage. Hourly samples of DMS was obtained using a customized DMS sampler. Samples were analyzed using a gas chromatograph fitted with a sulfur chemiluminesence detector (GC-SCD) to obtain atmospheric DMS...

Soil temperature and moisture records for the principal tundra vegetation types near Daring Lake, NWT, Canada in the low Arctic

Paul Grogan
Replicate thermocouples (n = 2-4) and TDR probes (n = 1-2) per vegetation type and experimental treatment have been recording soil temperatures at 2, 5, and 10 cm and moistures (0-10 cm) several times per day since 2006 in Tall birch, Birch Hummock, Dry Heath, and Wet Sedge vegetation communities. The data are quality checked and presented as diel (daily) means. In addition, we have been monitoring the effects of snow fences and summer plastic...

Carbon and nitrogen cycling in tundra soils - Daring Lake

Angela Bedard-Haughn & Maxime Paré
The landscapes were divided into five landform units: (1) upper slope, (2) back slope, (3) lower slope, (4) hummock, and (5) interhummock, which represented a great diversity of Static and Turbic Cryosolic soils including Brunisolic, Gleysolic, and Organic subgroups. Soil gross N mineralization was measured using the 15N dilution technique, whereas soil GHG emissions (N2O, CH4, and CO2) were measured using a multicomponent Fourier transform infrared gas analyzer. Soil organic matter characteristics were determined by...

Louis Fortier, Maxime Geoffroy, Ole Bernt Gammelsaeter, Shani Rousseau & Didrik Vartdal
The data set is composed of raw files recorded with the Kongsberg Maritime SX90 long-range, low frequency (20-30 kHz) fisheries sonar during the CCGS Amundsen 2011 summer expedition in the Beaufort Sea. The sonar was operated during 4 dedicated surveys (109 hours) and during 258 hours of opportunistic survey, from 27 August to 3 October. The sonar transducer was lowered 2.5 feet below the hull through a gate-valve. The cylindrical 256-elements transducer allows both a...
