Arctic-SOLAS 2007 atmospheric DMS, SO2, aerosol sulfate and MSA

, Ofelia Rempillo & Alison Michelle Seguin
The database consists of hourly atmospheric DMS concentrations, daily SO2 and total sulfate concentrations and three-day concentrations of size segregated aerosol sulfate. Samples were taken on the top of the navigation bridge of the CCGS Amundsen as it cruised along Baffin Bay and the Northwest Passage. Hourly samples of DMS was obtained using a customized DMS sampler. Samples were analyzed using a gas chromatograph fitted with a sulfur chemiluminesence detector (GC-SCD) to obtain atmospheric DMS...

Soil temperature and moisture records for the principal tundra vegetation types near Daring Lake, NWT, Canada in the low Arctic

Paul Grogan
Replicate thermocouples (n = 2-4) and TDR probes (n = 1-2) per vegetation type and experimental treatment have been recording soil temperatures at 2, 5, and 10 cm and moistures (0-10 cm) several times per day since 2006 in Tall birch, Birch Hummock, Dry Heath, and Wet Sedge vegetation communities. The data are quality checked and presented as diel (daily) means. In addition, we have been monitoring the effects of snow fences and summer plastic...

Carbon and nitrogen cycling in tundra soils - Daring Lake

Angela Bedard-Haughn & Maxime Paré
The landscapes were divided into five landform units: (1) upper slope, (2) back slope, (3) lower slope, (4) hummock, and (5) interhummock, which represented a great diversity of Static and Turbic Cryosolic soils including Brunisolic, Gleysolic, and Organic subgroups. Soil gross N mineralization was measured using the 15N dilution technique, whereas soil GHG emissions (N2O, CH4, and CO2) were measured using a multicomponent Fourier transform infrared gas analyzer. Soil organic matter characteristics were determined by...

SX90 sonar data in the Beaufort Sea: 2011

Louis Fortier, Maxime Geoffroy, Ole Bernt Gammelsaeter, Shani Rousseau & Didrik Vartdal
The data set is composed of raw files recorded with the Kongsberg Maritime SX90 long-range, low frequency (20-30 kHz) fisheries sonar during the CCGS Amundsen 2011 summer expedition in the Beaufort Sea. The sonar was operated during 4 dedicated surveys (109 hours) and during 258 hours of opportunistic survey, from 27 August to 3 October. The sonar transducer was lowered 2.5 feet below the hull through a gate-valve. The cylindrical 256-elements transducer allows both a...

Sea ice thickness in Southern Beaufort Sea

Christian Haas
A >800 km long ice thickness survey was performed over both first-year and multiyear ice east of Banks Island. Data were obtained by means of airborne electromagnetic (EM) sounding using a Canadian Kenn Borek Basler BT67 aircraft (C-JKB). Other auxiliary data include laser altimetry. More information can be found in the following publications: Haas, C., Lobach, J., Hendricks, S., Rabenstein, L., Pfaffling, A. (2009). Helicopter-borne measurements of sea ice thickness, using a small and lightweight,...

Duration of observations are as follows: Goose Creek (2007-2010, 2012, 2014); Ptarmigan Creek (2007-2010, 2012, 2014); ALD05 Creek (2008-2010, 2012, 2014); Big Slide Creek (2008-2010); Caribou Creek (2009-2010, 2012). Hydrometric data collected include discharge, electrical conductivity, temperature and suspended sediment concentration. Data are available in both .xlsx and .csv formats.

2005-2009 River and soil dissolved ion concentrations, Cape Bounty

Melissa Lafreniere
Samples were filtered in the field by vacuum filtration or by pressure filtration using syringe (2007) or a stainless steel filtration stage (2008-2009). All samples were filtered through 0.22 um filter membranes. The filtration units were triple rinsed with DI water and sample for each sample. Two 25 ml polyethylene scintillation vials were filled for each sample. Samples were analysed for cations (Na+, K+, NH4+, Ca2+, and Mg2+) and anions (Cl-, Br-, NO2-, SO42-, NO3-,...

Climate model data describing sea ice, surface winds and sea level pressure at a grid of locations in the Beaufort Sea region were extracted from various simulations contributing to phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5), a component of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment. Simulations of historical (pre-2005) and future climate under the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 emissions scenarios are considered. Data is in ASCII format,...

RADARSAT derived monthly ice motion estimates for the Beaufort Sea, 1997-2014

Chris Derksen, Stephen Howell & Mike Brady
Ice motion estimates were derived from RADARSAT-1 and RADARSAT-2 ScanSAR imagery using the Canadian Ice Service Automated Sea Ice Tracking System (CIS-ASITS). The system applies a combination of cross-correlation and phase-correlation methods of feature tracking to sequential SAR-image pairs. Ice drift vectors of varying confidence levels are produced from examining the image pairs at multiple resolution levels. Estimates were gridded at 200 m pixel resolution and organized by month. Using outputs produced by the CIS-ASITS...
