Study of the Distribution of Normal Contact Pressure Between Parts Joined in a Multi-Bolted System under Operational Loads

Rafał GRZEJDA
Modelling and calculations of unsymmetrical multi-bolted connections treated as a system for different bolt models and contact layer models between the joined parts are presented. The modelling refers to preloaded and externally loaded connections. The systemic models of the connection for two substitute models of bolts are shown. Between the joined parts two types of the Winkler model of a contact layer are taken into consideration. Calculations were made for an exemplary unsymmetrical connection. Its...

Approximate Estimation of Stability of Homogeneous Beam on Elastic Foundation

Iwona Małgorzata WSTAWSKA, Krzysztof MAGNUCKI & Piotr KĘDZIA
The paper deals with a proposition of obtaining an analytical solution for a beam on elastic foundation. The main objective of presented work was stability analysis of the axially compressed beam. The analytical model was proposed. Shape function for inhomogeneous properties of the foundation was assumed. The Galerkin method was used to calculate the values of critical forces. Main conditions have been defined. The critical loads as a function of geometric and mechanical properties of...

Bending of Beams with Symmetrically Varying Mechanical Properties Under Generalized Load – Shear effect

Krzysztof MAGNUCKI & Jerzy LEWIŃSKI
The paper is devoted to simply supported beams with symmetrically varying mechanical properties in the depth direction. Generalized load of the beams includes the load types from uniformly distributed to point load (three-point bending). This load is analytically described with the use of a certain function including a dimensionless parameter. The value of the parameter is decisive for the load type. The individual nonlinear “polynomial” hypothesis is applied to deformation of a planar cross section....

Weakened Zones in Wood – Based Composite Beams and Their Strengthening by CFRP: Experimental, Theoretical, and Numerical Analysis

Krzysztof KULA, Tomasz SOCHA & Arkadiusz DENISIEWICZ
This paper looks at the mechanical behaviour of wood-based beams. Laboratory tests of an I-beam show a considerable decrease of capacity in the weakened zones, e.g., at the connection between two pieces of pine wood used as a flange. We propose strengthening of the zones using fibre composite tapes based on CFRP. This article demonstrates the way for protection of the I-beam with defects in the bottom flange against the loss of load-carrying capacity. The...

Three-Dimensional Analysis of Laminated Plates with Functionally Graded Layers by Two-Dimensional Numerical Model

Piotr PLUCIŃSKI & Jan JAŚKOWIEC
This work presents a three-dimensional (3D) numerical analysis of multi-layered laminated plates in which selected layers may be made of functionally graded material (FGM), in which the Young’s modulus may change along the thickness as a consequence of a continuous and graded mixture of two materials. For the analysis, the method, known as FEM23, is applied, which uses a two-dimensional (2D) mesh, yet enables obtaining full 3D results for the layered structure. In FEM23, the...

Comparison Between Numerical Analysis and Actual Results for a Pull-Out Test

Jakub GONTARZ, Jerzy PODGÓRSKI, Józef JONAK, Marek KALITA & Michał SIEGMUND
The paper describes a computer analysis of the pull-out test used to determine the force needed to pull out a fragment of rock and the shape of this broken fragment. The analyzed material is sandstone and porphyry. The analysis included a comparison of different methods of propagation of cracks in the Abaqus computer program using the Finite Element Method. The work also contains a description of laboratory tests and analytical considerations.

The Role of the Bone Strength on the Cyst Growth in the Mandible

Justyna MIODOWSKA, Jan BIELSKI & Magdalena KROMKA-SZYDEK
Intracystic fluid pressure is discussed as a potentially important factor influencing a bone cyst growth. This process can develop in the course of months. However, the exact mechanism remains speculative. In this paper, we use an established mathematical model to evaluate whether the presence of pressurized fluid in bone cavities may result in cyst growth. A continuous function of bone density rate vs. mechanical stimulus is used. The numerical model of the mandible with the...
