Influences of Linker and Nucleoside for the Helical Self-Assembly of Perylene Along DNA Templates

Yannic Fritz & Hans-Achim Wagenknecht
Six different conjugates of perylene with 2′-deoxyuridine and with 2-amino-2′-deoxyadenosine were synthesized and applied for DNA-templated assembly in aqueous buffer solutions. They differ by the linkers ethynylene, phenylene, and phenylene–ethynylene between nucleoside and chromophore. The nucleosides were investigated as monomers in CHCl3 and dimethyl sulfoxide by optical spectroscopy. The properties of the four phenylene-linked conjugates are similar to that of perylene as reference because these linkers separate both aromatic parts. The ethynylene linker electronically couples...

An Experimental Evaluation of Time Series Classification Using Various Distance Measures

Tomasz Górecki & Paweł Piasecki
In recent years a vast number of distance measures for time series classification has been proposed. Obviously, the definition of a distance measure is crucial to further data mining tasks, thus there is a need to decide which measure should we choose for a particular dataset. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive comparison of 26 distance measures enriched with extensive statistical analysis. We compare different kinds of distance measures: shape-based, edit-based,...

Online Adaptable Time Series Anomaly Detection with Discrete Wavelet Transforms and Multivariate Gaussian Distributions

Markus Thill, Wolfgang Konen & Thomas Bäck
In this paper we present an unsupervised time series anomaly detection algorithm, which is based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) operating fully online. Given streaming data or time series, the algorithm iteratively computes the (causal and decimating) discrete wavelet transform. For individual frequency scales of the current DWT, the algorithm estimates the parameters of a multivariate Gaussian distribution. These parameters are adapted in an online fashion. Based on the multivariate Gaussian distributions, unusual patterns...

European Urbanism - Folge 19

Sandy Jeschke
SandyJ talks about the conferences she visited this year and what she learned from them and what happened in the world and the federal state and the European and town elections in May. Change your perspective, listen to other experiences and take their conditions into account. What works for one nation might be totally wrong for another. So why is there more and more polarization happening?! What can we learn from history and are infrastructure...
