A magnetically-induced self-assembled array of the gold pickering ferrofluid emulsion for enhanced infrared absorption from the molecular layer

Paul Okpozo, Dehong Huo, Y Dwivedi & Ketan Pancholi
These data have been produced as part of a research project that aimed to develop a method for the preparation of a magnetically-directed self-assembly of gold pickering ferrofluid emulsion, with the goal of enhancing infrared absorption from the molecular layer. The research was undertaken using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet-visual spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and pattern morphology image analysis. The study found that a regular array of chains are created when using magnetically-directed gold pickering ferrofluid...

Tuneable magnetic nanocomposites for remote self-healing?

Ranjeet Gupta, Charles Footer, Gavin Stenning, Jawwad Darr & Ketan Pancholi
The aim of this research is to develop a method to prepare a multiferroic-Polyamide 6 (PA6) nanocomposite with tuneable magnetocaloric properties for self-healing structure. It was shown that maintaining the low interaction radius through the dispersion of the low coercivity MNPs, could allow tuning of the bulk magnetocaloric properties of the resulting mesostructures. An in-situ polymerisation method improved dispersion and reduced maximum interaction radius value from ca. 806 to 371 nm as well as increased...

Large scale manufacturing route to metamaterial coatings using thermal spray techniques and their response to solar radiation

Nadimul Faisal, Nazmi Sellami, Federico Venturi, Tanvir Hussain, Tapas Mallick, Firdaus Muhammad-Sukki, Alex Bishop, Hari Upadhyaya, Nirmal Kumar Katiyar & Saurav Goel
Metamaterials, an artificial periodic two- or three-dimensional configuration can change propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves (i.e., reflection, transmission, absorption). The current challenges in the field of metamaterial coatings are their manufacturing in large scale and large length scale. There is a clear need to enhance process technologies and scalability of these. Thermal spraying is a method used to deposit small to large scale coatings where the sprayed layer is typically formed by successive impact of...
