The ant genus Crematogaster Lund, subgenus Physocrema Forel, in the Indochinese Peninsula (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

Indochinese species of the genus Crematogaster Lund, 1831 subgenus Physocrema Forel, 1912 are reviewed. Four species are recognised in the region. Two taxa formerly treated as subspecies of difformis, C. (P.) physothorax Emery, 1889 and C. (P.) sewardi Forel, 1901, are raised to species level. An identification key to species in the region is presented.

A new species of the formicine ant genus Lasius, viz Lasius elevatus sp. nov., is described from the Indian Himalayas. This is the third species of the subgenus Cautolasius known from the Himalayas, with L. alienoflavus Bingham, 1903 and L. talpa Wilson, 1955 reported earlier. Review of the Crematogaster popohana-group with the description of a new species from the Indochinese Peninsula (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

The Crematogaster popohana-group is reviewed and two species and one subspecies, including one new species, C. fumikoae sp. nov. are recognized. The C. popohana-group is distinguished from other Asian Crematogaster- species by the slender petiole with weakly convex sides. A key to the species based on the worker caste is also provided. Morphological features of the unique slender petiole are discussed.

Pristomyrmex punctatus (Smith, 1860) is a parthenogenetic ant species. Colonies are usually composed of workers only, or rarely of workers and a few ergatoid queens. Workers and ergatoids reproduce thelytokously, however colonies containing alate males are often found. The habitus of the body of P. punctatus has already been observed and described by previous authors. In the present study, a detailed description of the male genitalia is provided.

Anochetus yunnanensis Wang, 1993 is recognized as a junior synonym of Anochetus mixtus Radchenko, 1993, and the queen and male of Anochetus mixtus are described for the first time. In addition, male genitalia of A. princeps, A. rugosus and A. mixtus are described. The present study suggests the morphology of the male genitalia and associated sclerites may be useful for discriminating among Anochetus species in which the workers are largely indistinguishable.

Aphaenogaster muschtaidica Emery, 1908 n. st. is redescribed based on new material collected from Georgia. A neotype of this species is designated. Its sexual forms are described for the first time. Features defining members of A. gibbosa group are redefined and a status of Aphaenogaster subterranea fiorii Emery, 1915 n. comb. is recombined.
