Mechanisms underlying the synaptic alterations produced by the cognitive disability protein PAK3

The importance of our research consists of the identification of novel pathophysiological mechanisms that may underlie PAK3-related familial cases of mental retardation. The finding that PAK3 gene could affect synaptic protein PSD-95 dynamics and also influence local protein synthesis by acting on the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway may allude to pharmacological therapies.
