The distribution patterns of stratigraphically important calcareous nannofossils have been established in the Pliocene-Pleistocene of Site 653 sequence (Tyrrhenian Sea, Western Mediterranean). Semiquantitative and quantitative methods have been used to verify and improve biostratigraphic reliability of the nannofossil datums.
