Diatoms are present in middle to lower upper Miocene sections of all holes examined during Leg 150, but are generally absent or in low abundance in Pleistocene to middle upper Miocene sediments. An exception is the alternating diatom-rich, diatom-poor intervals in upper Quaternary sediments.
