During International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) expeditions, shipboardgenerated data provide the first insights into the cored sequences. The natural gamma radiation (NGR) of the recovered material, for example, is routinely measured on the ocean drilling research vessel DV JOIDES Resolution.
