BaZnCl4 is Zircon-like structured and crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pbcn space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ba2+ is bonded in a 8-coordinate geometry to eight Cl1- atoms. There are a spread of Ba–Cl bond distances ranging from 3.21–3.25 Å. Zn2+ is bonded in a tetrahedral geometry to four Cl1- atoms.
