Ga2Te5 crystallizes in the tetragonal I4/m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ga2+ is bonded to four equivalent Te+0.80- atoms to form edge-sharing GaTe4 tetrahedra. All Ga–Te bond lengths are 2.68 Å. There are two inequivalent Te+0.80- sites. In the first Te+0.80- site, Te+0.80- is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four equivalent Te+0.80- atoms.
