Ga2TeSe2 crystallizes in the tetragonal I4_1md space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ga3+ is bonded to one Te2- and three equivalent Se2- atoms to form a mixture of distorted corner and edge-sharing GaTeSe3 tetrahedra. The Ga–Te bond length is 2.60 Å.
