CrInBr3 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1/c space group. The structure is two-dimensional and consists of two CrInBr3 sheets oriented in the (0, 1, 0) direction. Cr2+ is bonded to six Br1- atoms to form distorted edge-sharing CrBr6 octahedra. There are a spread of Cr–Br bond distances ranging from 2.51–3.28 Å.
