LaSeTe2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Cmcm space group. The structure is two-dimensional and consists of two LaSeTe2 sheets oriented in the (0, 1, 0) direction. La3+ is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to four Te1- and five equivalent Se1- atoms. All La–Te bond lengths are 3.46 Å. There are one shorter (3.06 Å) and four longer (3.14 Å) La–Se bond lengths.
