Pr2Ta2O7Cl2 crystallizes in the monoclinic C2/m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Pr3+ is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to six O2- and three equivalent Cl1- atoms. There are a spread of Pr–O bond distances ranging from 2.44–2.62 Å. There are one shorter (2.89 Å) and two longer (2.92 Å) Pr–Cl bond lengths.
