DyNiSn2 is delta Molybdenum Boride-derived structured and crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are three inequivalent Dy sites. In the first Dy site, Dy is bonded in a 8-coordinate geometry to six Ni and eight Sn atoms. There are a spread of Dy–Ni bond distances ranging from 3.28–3.46 Å.
