Sn7(SBr5)2 crystallizes in the triclinic P1 space group. The structure is two-dimensional and consists of one Sn7(SBr5)2 sheet oriented in the (0, 1, 0) direction. there are seven inequivalent Sn2+ sites. In the first Sn2+ site, Sn2+ is bonded in a distorted trigonal non-coplanar geometry to one S2- and two Br1- atoms. The Sn–S bond length is 2.54 Å.
