Fe2P crystallizes in the hexagonal P-62m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Fe sites. In the first Fe site, Fe is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to five P atoms. There are one shorter (2.37 Å) and four longer (2.46 Å) Fe–P bond lengths.
