Yb2CdGe is Heusler structured and crystallizes in the cubic Fm-3m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Yb is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to four equivalent Cd and four equivalent Ge atoms. All Yb–Cd bond lengths are 3.18 Å. All Yb–Ge bond lengths are 3.18 Å. Cd is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to eight equivalent Yb atoms. Ge is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to eight equivalent Yb atoms.
