Mg(SnO2)2 is Ilmenite-like structured and crystallizes in the monoclinic Cm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are eight inequivalent Mg2+ sites. In the first Mg2+ site, Mg2+ is bonded to four O2- atoms to form MgO4 tetrahedra that share corners with three MgO6 octahedra and corners with six SnO6 octahedra.
