Wood et al. (2012) found that belief in one conspiracy theory is positively correlated with belief in a second contradictory conspiracy theory. For instance, participants were asked to what degree they believed Princess Diana was murdered and, alternatively, faked her own death. Based on this positive correlation, they conclude that those who believe in one conspiracy theory are more likely to also believe a contradictory conspiracy theory.
