Introduction Colorectal cancer represents the second commonest cause of cancer-related mortality in the UK, with one-third of cases involving the rectum. Response to chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in rectal cancer varies from pathological complete response (pCR, with associated survival benefit) to disease progression.
