Recent phylogenetic research indicates that the true army ants (e.g. Aenictus, Dorylus, Eciton, Neivamyrmex) belong to the subfamily Dorylinae, together with several non-army ant genera such as Cerapachys, Yunodorylus, Lioponera and Ooceraea.
